GRB 090510, the first case study of a short GRB with GeV extended emission detected by Fermi and Swift.
Abstract
The bright Gamma-Ray Burst GRB 090510 was unprecedented as the first short GRB de-tected simultaneously by Swift-XRT & UVOT and Fermi-LAT, covering the energy range from 0.002keV to more than 300 GeV. Extended GeV emission was detected by Fermi-LAT, lasting for 200s after the initial trigger, and it yielded the highest energy photon ever observed from a short GRB (30.5 GeV). We report on the joint multi-wavelength observations of GRB 090510 performed by Fermi and Swift. This exceptional GRB enabled us to investigate the physical properties of the GRB outflow, poorly understood in short bursts. We discuss internal and external shock models for the broadband energy emission of this object.
